When performing an intra-uterine fetal blood transfusion, there may be up to 4 appropriate codes to bill including: 

• 59012, cordocentesis/sampling
• 36460, fetal blood transfusion
• 76941, ultrasonic guidance, intrauterine transfusion/cordocentesis
• Any appropriate ultrasound performed prior to transfusion, such as 76815, Limited ultrasound (checking fetal well-being after the transfusion is not separately billable – SMFM Q&A #1789). Check with your local payers for their preferred method to report this service if the limited scan is indicated pre or post-procedure.
